Frequently Asked Questions

You've got questions, we've got answers.

General

How does Double Knot decide which photographers and videographers with whom to work?

Double Knot is a highly curated, invite-only collective. We seek the best photographers that align with our mission of authentic wedding media.

Each shooters books only a limited number of weddings per year, and they all receive extensive training in our candid, authentic style.

Where is Double Knot located?

Our team lives in Central Texas and NYC, with some members traveling between both areas.

We've also captured weddings in 12 states and 6 countries, so don't hesitate to reach out with your destination wedding.

What happen in an emergency where my chosen team members can't make it?

After eight years and over 400 weddings, we have never missed, arrived late, or short-staffed a wedding.

Our team is flexible and, given our deep bench and industry connections, we will always have a backup if one of our shooters is ill or otherwise unable to make your day.

What equipment will you bring?

We spend thousands of dollars every year updating our cameras, lenses, and support equipment. Technology is moving fast and getting better every day, and we want to take full advantage of it.

For photography, we’ll bring all the necessary stands, strobes, and modifiers to light any space.

For video, our cameras can see in the dark better than the human eye. No need to ruin your perfect dance floor with harsh lighting. Leave the crackly audio to the iPhones; we’ll bring a variety of on-camera and wireless microphones, cabling, and recorders to ensure that your vows and toasts are clearly heard.

How does Double Knot ensure no media is lost?

We back up our media to two different physical locations and a cloud service that promises 100% data reliability. We also only shoot on cameras that can record to two media cards at once. Paranoid? Maybe a little.

What is your cancellation and reschedule policy?

50% of the total price is considered a non-refundable retainer. At a minimum, all parties agree that retainer fee fairly compensates Double Knot Pictures for committing to provide the Services and turning down other potential projects/clients.

If the client cancels the event without rescheduling, any monies paid in excess of 50% of the total price will be fully refundable. If the client wishes to reschedule the date, any monies paid can be applied to the new date and no penalty or surcharge will be applied. New team members may have to be substituted when the date is rescheduled due to availability conflicts.

Booking

Can I choose my photographer and videographer?

Yes! We fully recognize the importance of selecting a specific shooter according to your preferences. You can use our catalog to search our team's availability, browse individual profiles, and add your lead photographer and videographer to your cart.

Does Double Knot charge for travel?

For weddings within 30 miles of Austin, and San Antonio, or within the five boroughs of NYC, there is no travel fee. For weddings between 30-90 miles away, a small travel fee may include nominal costs for gas, tolls, mileage, lodging, etc. This travel fee will be auto-calculated when booking using our website. Weddings farther than 90 miles from our main metros will require a meeting with our studio manager to discuss custom travel rates.

For destination weddings that require airfare and lodging, we will charge a flat fee for our accommodations.

Do I have to buy albums, video edits, discs, etc. at the same time as I reserve my photographer and videographer?

Nope! We do recommend purchasing these items before your wedding date though. We only retain the raw media, which we need to create many of these deliverables, from your wedding for six months.

Can I get some help building a package that suits my wedding?

Please feel free to book a video or phone consultation at any time to go over best recommendations with our studio manager.

Delivery

Who will edit my wedding media?

All our wedding media is edited by our in-house, full-time photo and video editing team.

This process allows us to let our shooters focus on shooting and our editors focus on editing, resulting in a much higher level of specialization and expertise for both roles.

Who owns the copyright?

Copyright will be owned jointly by the client and Double Knot Pictures. You may request that we do not use your media in our marketing.

When will I get my media?

We deliver a photo sneak peek within 30 days, and the full photo and video within 75 days.
